Identity (ID) verification

LeavePlus may ask you to verify your identity (ID). This helps us protect your private information from unauthorised access

Our verification process is online and secure. It’s easy to follow and should take less than 5 minutes to complete.

Get ready to verify your identity

To get started, you’ll need:

  • A smartphone that can take high quality photos.
  • Internet access.
  • 1 or more government-issued ID documents.

How the ID check works

  1. LeavePlus will send you an SMS with a link. The link is just for you and will expire after 72 hours.
  2. Click the link to access the ID verification portal in your phone’s browser.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions. They will ask for camera permissions to:
    • Take photos of your ID documents using your phone.
    • Take a selfie (a photo of your face) using your phone.
  4. Submit your ID verification, and you’re done.

We’ll be notified automatically when you submit your ID documents for verification. We’ll email you to let you know if the check was successful or not. If it wasn’t successful, we’ll explain the next steps you can take to verify your identity.

As part of the ID verification, you’ll need to submit photos of at least 1 ID document:

  • The documents must provide at least 70 points of identification.
  • At least one of the documents must contain a photo and be from the ‘primary photographic documents’ list, below.
  • Your documents must be government-issued, physical documents. You can’t submit a photo of a digital ID or your union card.

We find ID checks fail due to one or more of the following:

  • The photos are blurry or out of focus.
  • There’s too much glare or dark shadows on the documents.
  • The document is not straight.
  • The document is damaged or is missing information.
  • The documents provided are not supported or have expired.
  • Your name and contact details don’t match your documents.
  • Your selfie couldn’t be matched to the photos on the document.

See the tips below to help you pass the ID check first time:

  • Use natural lighting. Take the photo near a window during the day, using soft natural light. Avoid direct sunlight, shadows, glare, or reflections from lights or camera flash.
  • Choose a suitable background. Place your document on a neutral, flat surface that provides good contrast. For example, a white document on a black table works great.
  • Keep the camera steady and focused. Hold your device still while taking the photo. Ensure the image is sharp and in focus.
  • Frame the entire document. Make sure all edges of the document are visible within the frame. Don’t crop, cut off corners, or obscure any part of the document.
  • Don’t edit the photo. Don’t apply any filters, adjustments, or edit the image.
  • Pose naturally. When taking your selfie, keep your head straight and face the camera. Pose as though you’re taking a photo for your passport.

FrankieOne is an Australian company that provides ID verification and fraud prevention technology. Some of Australia’s largest bank and fintech companies use FrankieOne services.

FrankieOne verifies the information and photos you submit against trusted databases. These include government and credit reference agencies.
