Protecting workers, supporting employers and delivering fair outcomes.

Why long service leave matters

At LeavePlus, we regulate Victoria’s construction industry long service leave scheme to make sure it works fairly for everyone.

Long service leave is a legal entitlement, not a bonus. It recognises the time and commitment workers give to the construction industry. In a physically demanding industry, long service leave supports workers’ health, safety, and wellbeing, and helps experienced workers stay in the workforce.

What LeavePlus does

LeavePlus administers the Construction Industry Long Service Leave Act 1997 (Vic). Our role is to make sure construction workers receive the long service leave they have earned and that employers meet their legal obligations.

We work with employers and the broader industry to support compliance. This includes providing education, clear guidance, and practical information. We are also investing in better systems and processes to make compliance simpler and reduce unnecessary administrative burden over time.

Our approach to regulation

Our regulatory approach is risk-based. We focus on the areas of highest risk and work to prevent serious issues before they occur. We continually improve how we regulate to reflect changes across the construction industry.

Our enforcement is firm but proportionate. We act consistently and use our legal powers in a balanced way. We operate independently and transparently, publishing information about our regulatory activities and enforcement to build trust with workers, employers, and industry stakeholders.

To help us achieve our aim of being a modern-risk based regulator we’ve set 4 regulatory objectives:

  • Construction workers in Victoria are entitled to portable long service leave. LeavePlus will make sure they get paid when they take their long service leave.
  • LeavePlus supports Employers to comply. But if Employers refuse to meet their legal obligations, we will enforce the law.
  • Our enforcement is firm but proportionate.
  • LeavePlus promotes trust in the construction industry’s long service leave system by operating transparently and independently.
