How we regulate

Our public purpose statement

Long service leave is an established part of working life in Australia. Its public benefit is commonly understood as:

  • helping reduce labour turnover and retain workers within an industry
  • recognising and rewarding long and faithful service
  • supporting workers to rest and recharge partway through their working lives

For the construction industry, portability of this entitlement is essential. Because work is mostly project based, workers need long service leave that moves with them between employers—and that’s where LeavePlus comes in.

We’ve captured the broader public benefit of our work at LeavePlus in our Public purpose statement:

We make a positive impact on the lives of Victoria’s construction workers by protecting their hard-earned portable long service leave entitlements.

At the same time, we work alongside employers to build strong, supportive relationships that make compliance simple and sustainable.

Through tailored guidance and practical solutions, we help employers meet their obligations to register with the scheme, submit accurate returns, and pay the long service leave charge to keep the scheme sustainable – while ensuring that non-compliance has clear consequences.
