Employer obligations

Employers must register, report and pay charges for eligible workers. Learn what’s required and how to stay compliant.

As an employer you have ongoing responsibilities to ensure your workers get the long service leave they earn.

Your responsibilities

  • Register your business with LeavePlus
  • Submit quarterly Long Service Leave Returns
  • Pay long service leave charges for eligible workers
  • Keep accurate records of work and payments
  • Notify LeavePlus if your business details change

Record keeping requirements

You must keep records of:

  • Worker names and registration numbers
  • Start and end dates of employment
  • Days worked and absences
  • Ordinary pay amounts
  • Apprenticeship completion dates

Keep your business details up to date

If your business structure changes, such as getting a new ABN or ACN, you need to let us know. This helps us:

  • Keep your records up to date
  • Make sure your workers don’t lose service
  • Keep you compliant with the portable long service leave scheme

You will need to fill out a Change of Entity form. We’ll update your profile and may give you a new employer registration number.

What you’ll need:

  • Your current LeavePlus Employer number
  • Current and new ABN/ACN
  • Trading names
  • Contact details and business address
