Register with LeavePlus

If you hire workers to do construction or maintenance work in Victoria for more than 5 days in any calendar month, you need to register.

Registering is quick, simple, and is the first step towards meeting your legal obligations under the construction industry’s portable long service leave scheme.

You must register if:

  • You do construction or maintenance work in Victoria.
  • You hire workers, including casuals, part-time or short-term project workers, or apprentices, for more than 5 days in any calendar month.

Before you start

You will need:

  • your business name and ABN/ACN
  • contact details, including registered business address
  • information about your workers and the type of work they do
  • trustee details (if registering a trust).

What happens after you register

You will:

  • Need to complete a backdated service return if your business was operating before you registered with LeavePlus.
  • Submit a return every quarter, even if your workers didn’t perform any construction work in Victoria.
  • Receive a notice from LeavePlus showing the amount of the long service leave charge (plus any applicable statutory interest) that is payable for your workers.
  • Pay the charge to LeavePlus. This goes into the fund that supports workers’ long service leave.

Not sure if your business is covered?

You’re not alone. Many employers aren’t sure if their business is covered by the LeavePlus scheme. But if you hire a worker to perform construction or maintenance work in Victoria for more than 5 days in any calendar month you will need to register.
