What type of work is covered?
All construction work done by workers for employers in the construction industry in Victoria is covered. Under the LeavePlus scheme, the ‘construction industry’ is much wider than the traditional building and construction industry and includes some allied industries and work such as repair and maintenance work, concrete testing, electrical services, floor covering services, industrial machinery and equipment services, shopfitting services, landscape gardening services, precast concrete construction, and electrical switchboard assembly work. Which workers are covered?
The following workers and work types are also covered:
+ Apprentices, sub-contractors, and worker directors
+ Forepersons, sub-forepersons, and leading hands
+ Workers covered by enterprise agreements or awards
+ Work carried out on residential, commercial, and civil sites
+ Union and non-unionised work

If you employ workers to carry out construction work for more than 5 days in any calendar month, you’re required by law to register with the scheme. The scheme entitles your workers to 9.1 weeks of long service leave after 7 years of continuous service, even if they change employers within the industry.

What is LeavePlus and how does it work?
LeavePlus is a compulsory portable long service leave scheme specifically designed for the construction industry in Victoria, Australia. The scheme was first established in 1976 and was formerly known as CoINVEST. It allows workers to accumulate long service leave entitlements even if they change employers, which is common in the construction industry due to the short-term nature of projects and contract work. LeavePlus is the administrator and regulator of the scheme.
